She spins and she sways
To whatever song plays
Without a care in the world
And I'm sitting here wearing
The weight of the world on my shoulders

It's been a long day
And there's still work to do
She's pulling at me
Saying "Dad, I need you

There's a ball at the castle
And I've been invited
And I need to practice my dancing
Oh, please, Daddy, please?

So I will dance with Cinderella
While she is here in my arms
'Cause I know something the prince never knew
Oh, I will dance with Cinderella
I don't want to miss even one song
'Cause all too soon the clock will strike midnight
And she'll be gone..

Alfred threw open the front door, setting down his brief case with a tired sigh. It was a long, boring day at the office and all Alfred wanted was some dinner and to sit on the couch and watch whatever show seemed to catch his eye for the night. However, all that changed when he heard her excited cries. "Daddy's home! Daddy's home!" Soon enough, he heard the little feet racing as she ran through the halls to get to Alfred. His tired face eased into a happy grin as (Name) finally came into sight and he pulled her into his arms, lifting her and twirling her in the air. "Daddy, put me down! You're going to get my dress all ruined." The (h/c) child giggled as Alfred refused, placing butterfly kisses all over her face.

"Ah, welcome home, Mr. Jones." Alfred finally put his beautiful daughter down, turning to Toris- the nanny.

"Alfred, Toris. Call me Alfred." The American replied, shaking his head in mock-disappointment. He's told the Lithuanian man how many times?

"My apologies, Mr.- Alfred." Toris corrected, causing little (Name) to giggle at her friend's mistake. "(Name) was a doll as always. We were just playing princess."

"Alright. Thanks, Toris. See you tomorrow morning." After Toris left, Alfred turned to his daughter, who had begun to pull on his pants. "Yes, princess?"

(Name) blushed, smiling sweetly at her dad. "I was invited to a ball, daddy! The prince asked me to come. But..." (Name) paused, playing with the hem of her princess gown. "I don't know how to dance. Teach me, daddy?"

"Of course, sweetie." Alfred took her small hand in his', and led her away to dance to their own tune.

She says he's a nice guy and I'd be impressed
She wants to know if I approve of the dress
She says, "Dad, the prom is just one week away
And I need to practice my dancing
Oh, please, Daddy, please?"

So I will dance with Cinderella
While she is here in my arms
'Cause I know something the prince never knew
Oh, I will dance with Cinderella
I don't want to miss even one song
'Cause all too soon the clock will strike midnight
And she'll be gone

"D-dad?" Alfred looked up from cutting his stake, hands pausing in their actions. He waited patiently for (Name) to continue; she looked rather nervous today. "You know how the prom is coming up, right? And you know Arthur?" Alfred nodded, his face hardening slightly. He knew where this conversation was heading. "Well, he asked me to go and... I said yes." Though Arthur was a nice enough guy, the American dad frowned, knowing all along that he should've done the tough dad act sooner. Yes, he would've even brought out his old baseball bat, too.

"Please say something, dad." (Name)'s voice pulled Alfred from his thoughts, and he faced her again with a smile.

"I'm glad. He seems like a nice guy."

"He really is, dad. I'm happy." (Name) paused, most likely thinking about her British boyfriend, before snapping back to reality. "Though, I do need a gown. Can you take me shopping for one? Most of my friends already bought theirs' online, but I want to try my on. That's the whole fun of it!"

"I'd be happy to take you, sweetie."

--
Alfred, of course, didn't see the idea of trying on so many dresses, for he thought that the first one (and the many to follow) all looked beautiful on his baby girl, but he knew it was important to (Name) so he kept his mouth shut of any complaints. Though, that didn't stop him from inputting comments such as, "No way! The neck line is too short." and, "sequence is see-through, sweetie. See- through." and, "I don't trust Arthur enough."

"Oh! What about this one?" Alfred looked up from the magazine he was reading as his daughter stepped out of the changing room. Being her dad, he always thought she looked beautiful, but in the gown he truly looked like a princess. The dress was simple yet elegant in its own way, being of a deep royal blue color. Plus, much to Alfred's liking, it was a safe length and passed all the protective dad tests. Seeing the look on her father's face, (Name) knew he approved. "I think this is the one!"

Alfred nodded, moving up to hug his daughter. (Name) happily obliged, resting her head on her dad's shoulder. "Hey, dad?" Alfred hummed, signalling he heard her. "Can you help me dance again?"

"Sure, sweetie." And then the two begun to sway in the middle of the dress store, the gown swirling gracefully.

Well, she came home today with a ring on her hand
Just glowing and telling us all they had planned
She says, "Dad, the wedding's still six months away
But I need to practice my dancing
Oh, please, Daddy, please?"

So I will dance with Cinderella
While she is here in my arms
'Cause I know something the prince never knew
Oh, I will dance with Cinderella
I don't want to miss even one song
'Cause all too soon the clock will strike midnight
And she'll be gone

"Mr. Jones? I-ah- I need to ask you a question."

Alfred smiled, though he couldn't stop the look of confusion that crossed his face. "Yes?"

"W-well, I just..." Arthur coughed into his hand. Alfred almost had the nerve to tell the boy to hurry up, but after dating his daughter for the last... six years? Yes, the time flew since (Name)'s senior prom. She was now a lovely twenty- four year old, starting a new life out of college, and, moving away from Alfred's hold of protection. In fact, she was moving to her new home in California in the morning, so they all decided to go out to eat. Currently, she was in the bathroom, leaving Alfred and Arthur together alone. "I wanted to know if I could ask for (Name)'s hand in marriage?"

What as that? Alfred blinked, the words rolling around in his head. "M-marriage?' Alfred looked at Arthur, a skeptical look in his eye. Arthur looked so pale, but so honest. Alfred grinned, clapping a hand on the Brit's back. "I thought you'd never ask her! I give you my blessing." Alfred's grip suddenly tightened, and he leaned in close. "However, if you hurt her in any way, shape or form, I will have to kill you."

"U-understood, sir."

"Alfred. We're on the first name base now, right?" Arthur gave a weak nod, still a bit rattled.

"Dad? Arthur? What's going on?"

Alfred slid away from Arthur, looking at his daughter with an innocent smile. "Nothing, sweetie. Now, let's get some dessert."

--
Ring. Ring. Ring. "Hel-"

"Dad!? How could you not tell me?" Alfred blinked, pulling the phone away from his ear.

"(Name)? Is everything alright? What didn't I-" Click. "Arthur proposed?"

"Yes! Oh dad, I'm so happy!"

Alfred could feel his face pull up into a smile. "I'm glad, sweetie."

"One last thing, dad."

"Yes?"

"I know I'm not going to be married for a while, but... Can you dance with me one last time?"

"Of course, princess."

Alfred had always been told he'd be a good father, but how could he be a good father, if he had already failed at the most important thing? His beautiful daughter was gone. Gone so young. He crouched down even closer to the ground, hands resting on either side of the tombstone. He could never see her go off to kindergarten, prom, college... No, Alfred could never even give her away. He could never dance, with his sweet Cinderella.

So I will dance with Cinderella
While she is here in my arms
'Cause I know something the prince never knew
Oh, I will dance with Cinderella
I don't want to miss even one song
'Cause all too soon the clock will strike midnight

She will be gone
The song is Cinderella by Steven Curtis Chapman. It's such a beautiful, sad song.
Anyway, I hoped you enjoyed...
